About Us

What we do….
The Otago University Harrier and Multisport Club is a club for athletes of all levels. We combine both the competitive and social elements of our sports with a focus on Otago winter events and competitions during the university year. Participation in national events and summer competition is still strongly encouraged and supported. These events include road and cross country relays, cross-country and road events as well as social evenings and trips throughout Otago and the South Island.

Club Runs are held once or twice a week (depending on Saturday races) from the beginning of the university year to the end of exams. These are pack runs with groups sorted by participant’s perceived fitness and ability. They usually continue for an hour, starting and finishing at the OUSA Clubs and Societies building and are run at an easy-medium pace for each pack.

Out of town events and social outings that our club participates in annually include a start of season beach trip, Christchurch Half and Full Marathon, Timaru Gorges Relay, Clyde to Alex 10k and scenic run in Central Otago, and finally the National Road Relay Champs.

Events organised by our club include a race around the University Registry Clock Tower in Orientation Week and the Lovelock Relays, a 6 or 4 x 1500m relay event that starts the winter season for the Otago Centre.

Multi-Sport
The Multisport section of the club is an exciting and developing area in which we've been having quite a bit of success. We are keen to hear from anyone whether they are social, competitive, experienced or inexperienced who want to do some Multisport, Adventure Racing or just training in these disiplines.

Club Runs
These are held at 5:00pm on Wednesday and 10:00am on Saturday, leaving from Practice Room on the middle floor of the Clubs and Societies building (Albany St). All those that turn up, choose a group to run in based on their perceived fitness and ability. These runs are usually for an hour at an easy pace for a fit runner (a fast pace for a 2hr Half Marathon runner). We do aim to cater for runners of all abilities so if you can only handle 30mins running / walking or would prefer a faster run we will have one of our senior members take you on an run at that level. Our aim is to help people get to a level that they can run with the main group, but most of all, we just want you to enjoy your running.

There are changing rooms and showers at Clubs and Socs if you want to use them (Top floor) and you can store your stuff in the Practice Room where we meet in before the run.

What it costs and what you get ……
The club aims to keep its annual subscription to a bare minimum and so only charges $20 per year for a social membership. This gives you the opportunity to go on weekly runs with the club, join in on our trips away and social functions as well as getting subsidies on club apparel and trips away.

For the more competitive among us, there is a $80 ($70 for U20s) annual subscription which lets you compete for the club in the Otago Centre events (cross-country, road races, relays, etc) and get discounts to big public races like 3 Peaks and the Dunedin Half Marathon. This charge also covers you for competitive events through the Track and Field season and is transferable to home clubs for the summer break.
